Documentaries

Before the Rain (2018)

In the Upper Xingu region, Brazilian Amazon, the recent agribusiness expansion has caused drastic impact on the lives of indigenous peoples and rural communities. The documentary shows how the life and future of young people in different communities are constrained by environmental changes.  Anderson, Milene, Oreme and Tawa explain how large-scale farming are impacting the environment and their communities and then they question the local capacity for climate change adaptation.

Xingu Seed Network (2017)

The Xingu Seed Network is the largest native seeds supplier in Brazil for ecosystem restoration. The initiative involves 30 organisations and 600 seed collector in the Xingu’s watershed in the Brazilian Amazon. This documentary shows how local communities have engaged in seed collection, processing and storage to promote restoration processes with greater social outcomes.

Unearthing Science (2019)

This video is one of the materials of the Unearthing Science program to support rural students in Australia to think critically and curiously about the natural world. In small groups, students explore portable labs and scientific equipment to help guide and facilitate experiments. They design and carrying out a research project, collecting data from their own local environment or community, and presenting their work in a variety of communication pathways, including social media. Teachers are given lots of support materials, including manuals on how to design good scientific experiments and guides on how to maximise the program equipment.
